Doctor Edwards was born in Dubuque, Iowa, and raised in Sherman, Texas.  His father was a chemistry professor at Austin College and his mother a homemaker.  He decided to become a physician at an early age, inspired to pursue a career in medicine after experiencing the untimely deaths of both of his parents while he was still young.  Out of this early life tragedy was born a desire to pursue medicine as an avenue to help patients achieve longer, healthier lives.

Doctor Edwards dedicated himself to obtaining the finest education that he could. He attended Austin College on a full academic scholarship, awarded to the outstanding pre-medical student.  He then attended prestigious Baylor College of Medicine in the Texas Medical Center, where he twice served as President of his medical school class.  After graduation, he continued his studies at Baylor for three additional years in the Department of Family Medicine residency program.

After finishing his family medicine residency training, Doctor Edwards practiced for two years in rural Iowa before moving back to North Texas.  In 1992 he took over the medical practice of the late Dr. Anthony Vita, who had served as family physician in Allen since 1964.  Family Practice Associates traces its origins to the earliest days of Allen medical care. We are proud of this heritage, and excited to continue a tradition of excellence in patient care as we continually add new technologies and services to our practice.

We were especially proud in 2007 to be voted “Best Doctor” in Allen by readers of the Allen American. 

Doctor Edwards maintains Board Certification by the American Board of Family Practice.  He was recertified  most recently in 2006, passing the rigorous exam in the 92nd percentile (scoring higher than 92% of the physicians who took the exam).

Doctor Edwards and his wife Sara have been married for 24 years, and have three children, ages 21, 19, and 13. His interests outside of medicine are many, including cooking, tennis, woodworking, photography, and computers. He performs all IT related functions in the practice, and produced all the photographs displaying on the slideshows on the exam room computers.  He also designed this web site, and produced all the photographs for it.
